
SATUN
SATUN is one of the southern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are Trang, Phatthalung and Songkhla. This small border city is focused on the ecotourism, so it is not as lively as big cities, but it does not mean that Satun is lack of shopping and eatery places. On contrary, it is filled with its own and specific charming which is a tour for tasting Muslim food.



There are many Muslim foods in Satun, especially in downtown, such as Indian Salad or Pasmode, Kor Lae chicken and original recipe chicken. You can taste delicious Roti at Tummangong-Uthit road, and then sip tea and coffee made with Indian formula. In the markets of Muang Satun, there are many snacks such as Labanoon, Goykuda and Pootoo. These snacka can also be found in many districts, but most of them are in La-ngu district.

For shopping places of Satun, most of them are small weekend markets, however at Wang Prachan Border Market closed to Thhale Ban National Park, there is a duty-free market selling clothes, CD, electric appliances and many more and it is opened every Saturday (06.00 hrs. to noon) and Sunday (06.00 hrs. to 15.00 hrs.)


SONGKHLA
Apart from being the business center of the South, Songkhla is also the tourist destination due to its flourishing trade and natural potentials, Songkhla also possesses other interesting dimensions, such as beauty of the people, historical importance, old towns, and various trading centers, especially in Hat Yai. There are many eatery and shopping places for the tourists and for those who enjoy eating and shopping.
We will start at Hat Yai which has many restaurants and shopping areas such as:
Niphat-Uthit 1, 2 and 3 roads are Hat Yai's biggest shopping centers, starting from intersection of Sanehah-Nusorn road to all 3 Niphat-Uthit roads which have electric appliances, cosmetics, shoes, audio system, camera, sweets, and fresh fruits. They are divided into small sois (lanes) as Suntisuk Market, Yong Dee Market and Phaeng Thong.


From the quarters of Niphat-Uthit to Kim Yong Market, a shopping center of the local people and the tourists. Here, there are varieties of gadgets, clothes, shoes, bags as well as Thai and international confectioneries, perfume, watches, umbrella and etc.
If you need to shop in the air-conditioner building, Hat Yai has many famous department stores, i.e. Central Departmeny Store, opposite of Lee Garden Plaza Department Store on Sanehah-Nusorn road; Diana Department Store on Si Phuwanat road; Robinson Department Store around Hat Yai Railway Station, Big C Superstore on Lopburi-Ramate road; Carrefour Superstore, on Karnchanawanich road; Tesco-Lotus on Supphasarn-Rungsan road and Odeon Department Store on Niphat-Uthit road 3.
Another new trendy shopping spot of Hat Yai is the Car Trunk Market on Karnchanawanich road. It is a big occasional/flea market which sells various kinds of products. It is opened every Thursday-Sunday during 15.00-22.00 hrs.
Food is another highlight of Hat Yai such as:
In the morning, you can try delicious bakuttae and noodle as your breakfast and for lunchtime, there is a simple dish such as Phat Thai (stir-fried Thai noodle) and the famous food shop of this kind is located close to the railway station. There are also khanom Jeen Pachuen, along the canal and beef noodle at Jae Heang's. The intense favor of the southern rice and curry is a local dish that should not be missed.
Dinner is the main meal of Hat Yai people, so there are many kinds of food available in the restaurants and food shops in many roads, for instance Wat Chue Chang areas, which has many food stalls and sit-in food shops. The most famous food is Hat Yai Fried chicken. Around areas of Talad Mai which is quarter for the youngsters, there are many tea shops, sweets shops and food shops. If you have a chance to visit, you should try to teste Cha Chuk and special recipe of Roti at Gu's foodshop. Here, you will see how to make a traditional tea with strong taste to tea and various kinds of Roti which are soft, sweet and crispy. If you are a night owl kind of person, you should visit Thammanoon-Withi road, a lighting district of Hat Yai which has many beautifully decorated and chic restaurants. It is also the entertainment complex for those who love the night life.
Hat Yai also has many shopping places around the town.
About 56 km. Far from Hat Yai, there is Ban Dan Nok Immigration Office at Sadao District. This is robust trading place which has many kinds of product at daytime and at nighttime there are fascinating light from the hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars. You can buy duty free products in Malaysian side without having a border pass. Not far from this place, there is Padang Basar Border which has many sweets, chocolate, clothes, glasses and etc. The market is closed at 17.00 hrs.
There are not many shopping places in Downtown of Songkhla but there are a lot of places to buy souvenirs and eatery places such as:
Along the Nang-ngam road is well-known for eatery places, souvenirs shops and a famous ancient Chinese restaurant which has been open for decades. There are Song-Saen Thai Sweet Shop which has "Thong Ek", a traditional courtesan sweet which cannot find a place to eat easily nowadays, and the one and only egg ice-cream parlor of Songkhla. Wachira raod also has many varieties of Thai food. At Suan Tao Kae quarter, a popular place for the youngsters and students, here there is a famous curry roti food shop around the back of Thai Military Bank as well as pork-balls and meat-balls. Along the route to Laem Simila areas, there are many choices of seafood restaurants. A lots of renowned seafood restaurants with nice atmosphere can be found at Koh Yor. From there, apart from tasting the delicious, fresh seafood with reasonably price, you can also enjoy the viwepoint of the "Tinnasulanonda Bridge", which will be more beautiful at night. However, if you come here at daytime, there is a market selling souvenirs, dried food, local products, handicrafts and clothes and etc.
